Venue For Josh Warrington vs. Mauricio Lara Revealed

We now know the venue for Josh Warrington vs. Mauricio Lara.

Warrington and Lara are set to collide on February 13. There is one caveat to this matchup, however. It will not be contested for the IBF Featherweight Championship. That’s because Warrington vacated the gold due to the IBF’s unwillingness to sanction a proposed title unification bout against either WBA (Regular) Champion Xu Can or WBC titleholder Gary Russell Jr.

Still, Warrington and Lara will go on as planned. Matchroom Boxing has announced that the SSE Arena, Wembley in London, England will play host to the matchup. Here’s what the VP and general manager of the SSE Arena, John Drury, had to say about Warrington vs. Lara.

“We’re delighted to welcome Matchroom Boxing back to The SSE Arena, Wembley for our first events of 2021. We’re looking forward to another huge residency, with ASM Global’s VenueShield protocols keeping everyone at our venue safe and comfortable in a welcoming and Covid-secure environment.”

Warrington hasn’t competed since October 2019. He stopped Sofiane Takoucht via second-round TKO. While he won’t be making a title defense against Lara, he’s hoping to keep his unbeaten record intact. Warrington is a perfect 30-0.

Lara has been far more active than Warrington as of late. He had four fights in 2020, going 3-0, 1 NC for the year. Whether or not that activity will pay dividends for him on fight night remains to be seen.
