Vera To Defend ONE Championship Against Bhulla
The champion made the challenge for anyone to step up. It appears that Arjan Bhullar answered the call. In his second fight for ONE Championship, the 33-year-old will fight Brandon Vera for the ONE Heavyweight Championship in the Philippines on May 29. Multiple outlets have confirmed the news following an initial report by Asian MMA.
At ONE: Fire and Fury inside the Mall of Asia Arena, Vera (16-8, 1NC) spoke to the crowd about defending the ONE Heavyweight Championship. He made it a point to call out anyone and that the fight would be for the people. Vera currently resides in the Philippines.
“That heavyweight title is ours,” Vera stated. “I am defending our belt May 29 here at MOA Arena. We have people challenging me, thinking they can take our belt from us. I encourage all our Filipino athletes to get on the card. May 29, lets’s show the world why the Philippines is awesome!”
Bhullar (10-1) started his career a perfect 7-0 before joining the UFC. He won his debut bout against Luis Henrique at UFC 215 in 2017 via unanimous decision before losing to Adam Wieczorek in 2018 due to submission. The former BFL Heavyweight Champion then won his next two (against Marcelo Golm and Juan Adams) via unanimous decision. He did not receive a new contract and moved on to ONE FC. Debuting at ONE: Century in Japan back in October, Bullar beat Mauro Cerilli via unanimous decision.
He joined ONE in 2014, beating Igor Subora via TKO. Vera was on a four-fight win streak before attempting to become a double-champion. He ended up losing to Aung La Nsang for the ONE Light Heavyweight Championship back in October at ONE: Century.
ONE: Code of Honor will take place inside the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay. No other fights have been announced for the event at this time.
