The crossover between Mixed Martial Arts and professional wrestling continues in early 2018, as top UFC challenger Colby Covington stepped into the squared circle on Saturday night.
As first reported by MMA Weekly, Covington, who has appeared on IMPACT Wrestling in 2017 with other members of American Top Team, appeared as part of the WrestlePro promotion’s Brace For Impact event on Saturday night in Rahway, New Jersey.
While on the show, being shot for IMPACT’s weekly television show and a live special on Amazon’s Twitch streaming platform, Covington called out “TyQuil,” a nickname the outspoken Covington has bestowed upon the current UFC Welterweight champion, yet instead an impostor would come out to the ring and lose to Covington in mere moments.
As Rafael Dos Anjos has been tapped as the next challenger for Woodley’s title, this common pro wrestling trope by Covington is his attempt to not only steal the spotlight, but force Woodley’s hand.
