Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya had an amusing exchange following their UFC 259 bout.
Blachowicz put his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship on the line against the UFC Middleweight titleholder Adesanya this past Saturday night, March 6. The fight went the distance and it was Blachowicz who had his hand raised. The Polish bruiser was able to showcase solid defense on the feet and used his takedown ability to keep Adesanya grounded during the championship rounds for the unanimous decision.
Before the score totals were read, Blachowicz and Adesanya shared some kind words. The exchange was humorous and even referee Herb Dean got a good laugh out of it. The live pay-per-view feed didn’t pick up on what was said during the conversation but now we know what transpired.
The official Twitter account of ESPN MMA posted a clip of the hilarious miscommunication (via BJPenn.com).

Adesanya: My legs are fatigued a little bit.
Blachowicz: Mine too.
Adesanya: But your guard game—very good guard game. I mean passing, you passed [my guard]. You made me look like a butter guard.
Blachowicz: You pay good?
Blachowicz: You pay good money?
Adesanya: What now?
Blachowicz: You pay good money for—
Adesanya: For what?
Blachowicz: For bodyguard. I can be your bodyguard.
Adesanya: Oh no, no—I said ‘good guard!’
Blachowicz: Oh, [laughs] good guard!
Adesanya suffered the first loss of his pro MMA career against Blachowicz. He made it clear to UFC color commentator Joe Rogan after the fight that he isn’t done with light heavyweight but he did imply that his next outing will take place at middleweight.
As for Blachowicz, he’s of the belief that Glover Teixeira is the most deserving of a title shot next. With that said, he also wants to take some time off before stepping back inside the Octagon.
