Well, this is something you don’t see every day.
At Shooto Brasil 106, the super-bantamweight gold was on the line. Diego Ribeiro and Aleandro Caetano did battle for the championship. In the first round, Ribeiro landed two illegal upkicks as Caetano’s knees were on the mat. The second kick shut the lights off Caetano.
The official ruling was a disqualification, meaning Caetano is the new Shooto Brasil Super-Bantamweight Champion after being knocked out.
Speaking to MMAFighting.com, Caetano responded to those who believe he was milking the illegal strike.
“I was winning the fight, why would I fake it?,” he said. “Even if I didn’t knock him out in the first, I was winning the round and he would lose a point with the illegal upkick, so it would be a 10-8 — and he was gassed already. Why would I stop this fight?
“Tell those people to look at my record, I was never knocked out before. I was knocked down once in my life, but never out.”
