Viewership Numbers For Teofimo Lopez vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko Revealed

The viewership totals for Teofimo Lopez vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko are in.

Lopez and Lomachenko did battle for all the major lightweight gold outside of Devin Haney’s WBC Title. The WBA (Super), WBC (Franchise), IBF, and WBO Titles were at stake. While Lopez was the underdog going into his bout with “Loma,” he ended up scoring the upset via unanimous decision.

The bout aired live on ESPN and FIGHT SPORTS in over 50 countries. Many have been eagerly anticipating the viewership numbers and the wait is over (via Kevin Iole).

“The [Teofimo Lopez vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko event] did MASSIVE numbers on ESPN Saturday in overall viewers and in 18-49. The entire six-hour block averaged 1.54 million — including prelims — and main event peaked at 2.898 million. Main event was NEVER under 2.3 million. Up against Alabama-Georgia and MLB Game 7.”

Lopez anticipated a minimum of three million viewers for his fight with Lomachenko. He was close as the peak was 2.898 million. Arum had said that if the event failed to live up to expectations, not necessarily the ones set by Lopez, then networks would be hesitant to air boxing events of this magnitude going forward. With Lopez vs. Lomachenko garnering a solid number despite stiff competition, it’s safe to say Top Rank and ESPN consider this a success.
