Volkanovski Challenges McGregor After The Latter Criticized His P4P Status
Conor McGregor has hit back at suggestions that Alexander Volkanovski is the sport’s number one pound-for-pound fighter.
The current UFC featherweight champion has racked up an impressive 13 wins out of his last 14 fights. His only loss in recent memory was against Islam Makhachev when Volkanovski moved up in weight. However, that defeat was followed up by an impressive win over Yair Rodriguez as he stopped the latter in the third round. But when it came to Volkanovski’s greatness, McGregor had a few choice words to say about it.
Ask my bollox that little sausage volkonovski is no way p4p 1. Silly. That’s quick work for me. 100% accuracy work. Readable. Hittable. Hurtable. I like he has this title tho we should fight at some stage so the FW goats will have all faced off and let there be no debate.

Those comments got the attention of Volkanovski, who hit back immediately by expressing his willingness to face the Irishman.

The social media response towards McGregor was far from favorable. Large numbers of the MMA community questioned the validity of McGregor’s opinion since he has not fought since 2021. The loss to Dustin Poirier included an injury to his leg, as McGregor’s return continues to be delayed. Despite USADA requesting that athletes submit two negative samples over a sixth-month period in order to compete, McGregor has failed to do so. And not surprisingly, the ‘Notorious’ did receive a lot of backlash.

Listen! Whatever your opinion is of Conor, it’s a fight uphill to be a credible fighter again if you rarely fight. He’s stretching it out for PR for his businesses which is fair enough but is time in the cage has passed with regard to being a champion again.
