Ward: Lomachenko’s Not #1 Pound for Pound, I Am
When Andre Ward fought Sergey Kovalev in November, the fight was dubbed a contest for the #1 pound-for-pound spot in boxing. But after Ward’s controversial win, some still doubt his ranking among the top fighters in the world.
Recently, WBO junior-lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko has skyrocketed up the pound-for-pound list, with some already considering him the best in the world.
Ward (31-0) is now set to rematch Kovalev in June, hoping to prove once and for all that he is the better fighter and his unanimous decision victory in November was not unwarranted.
In the meantime, he has admired what Lomachenko has been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time, but he still believes he owns the distinction of being the top pound-for-pound fighter.
