Wardley Reportedly Set To Defend Heavyweight Title Vs Dubois
WBO Heavyweight Champion Fabio Wardley will reportedly face Daniel Dubois in his first defense on May 9 in Manchester, UK, as a fight is said to be in the closing stages of negotiations.
Wardley was elevated to full world champion status shortly after his 11th-round victory over Joseph Parker last October, following Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to relinquish the belt. For Wardley, this represents a grueling step up in competition. He is currently coming off stoppage wins over Frazer Clarke, Justis Huni, and most recently Parker. Dubois hasn’t stepped into the ring since his fifth-round knockout loss to Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch at London’s Wembley Stadium last July. Following losing his IBF belt in that encounter, Dubois rejoined his trainer Don Charles in an attempt to become a two-time world champion.
