Was Alex Volkanovski Ever Offered Henry Cejudo Fight?
UFC Featherweight Champion Alex Volkanovski has revealed whether or not he was offered a bout with Henry Cejudo.
Following his UFC 249 victory over Dominick Cruz back on May 9, Cejudo announced his retirement. It wasn’t just a spur of the moment as “Triple C” ended up relinquishing the UFC Bantamweight Championship. While Cejudo is retired, that hasn’t stopped him from taking aim at others.
One of the names that Cejudo has been targeting is Volkanovski. Cejudo has said that a big payday and a shot at Volkanovski’s UFC Featherweight Championship would be enough to lure him out of retirement.
Speaking to MMAJunkie.com, Volkanovski discussed Cejudo’s desire to fight him and if he’s been offered the bout.
“It’s funny, I have a laugh about it, but I don’t know how people are taking it, if they really think that I’m not signing some contract that supposedly I’m meant to sign. No one has talked to me about this at all, except Cejudo. I just keep seeing him begging, absolutely begging Dana White to give him a shot.”
Volkanovski has said he wants fresh challengers for his 145-pound gold. “The Great” doesn’t find Cejudo to be an exciting opponent and has named the likes of “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung, Brian Ortega, Zabit Magomedsharipov, and Yair Rodriguez as better options.
