Wassem Takes Home Nation By Storm
It has been a non-stop appreciation tour for unbeaten newly crowned WBC “silver” flyweight champion Muhammad Waseem (4-0, 3 KOs) his native Pakistan. It has been nonstop local media interviews, meeting with high ranking officials, and meet and greets with his countrymen since Waseem defeated former world title challenger Jether Oliva (23-6-2, 11 KOs) on July 17 in South Korea to claim the WBC belt. Winning the title is, to date, the biggest achievement of any Pakistan-born professional boxer. There is still the goal of becoming the country’s first world champion.
Waseem will return to Las Vegas soon to resume training with Jeff Mayweather at the famed Mayweather boxing club per his promoter Andy Kim (AK Promotions. A November return to the ring is the plan.
With WBC flyweight champion Ramon Gonzalez moving up to challenge WBC super flyweight champion Carlos Cuadras on September 10th, Kim hopes Waseem will be considered as a candidate should the world title become vacant.
