Mixed Martial Arts was the subject of a Congressional hearing today presented by the Energy and Commerce Committee.
The hearing, titled Mixed Martial Arts: Issues and Perspectives, was held to inform members of the committee more about the industry of MMA and what goes into its success. Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Oklahoma), a committee member who was once an MMA fighter, is attempting to expand the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, or Ali Act, to include MMA.
Key witnesses who spoke at the hearing, which lasted a little less than an hour and a half, include former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Randy Couture, UFC’s Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitsky and Treasurer of the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports Lydia Robertson.
