A powerful figure at heavyweight, Curtis Blaydes has been waiting for his shot at the UFC Heavyweight Title. With big wins over several top fighters, Blaydes is making a strong case for himself.
Blaydes (13-2, 1 NC) is on a three-fight win streak and is looking for his second win in 2020. He is set to face off against Alexander Volkov at UFC on ESPN 11 this Saturday, June 20. The 29-year-old is ranked third in the UFC’s heavyweight rankings, and the two losses in his career come against Francis Ngannou, which has resulted in Ngannou being pushed for a title shot over him.
Check out the above video, via the UFC, where Blaydes has managed to manhandle the competition. Highlights include:
- Huge elbows against a downed Alistair Overeem at UFC 225 (2018) following a big kick and takedown.
- In his second UFC fight, Blaydes earned his first win in the promotion against Cody East (2016). Blaydes hit elbows to a downed opponent following a right hand and takedown.
- Another second-round TKO via elbows and punishing shots to the face, this time against Shamil Abdurakhimov at UFC 242 (2018).
- In his last fight against Junior dos Santos (2020), Blaydes once again took an opponent out in the second round. Following a one-two combination, Blaydes hit knees and shots to the face against a groggy dos Santos.
