The last set of fighters competing in the “Matchroom Fight Camp” series used their words to discuss how they felt about their opponents.
This Saturday, August 22, two titles will be on the line during the finale of Eddie Hearn’s latest creation. Before they stepped inside the ring, check out the above video to see the pre-fight press conference.
The main event will be Dillian Whyte (27-1) defending his interim WBC Heavyweight Title against Alexander Povetkin (35-2-1). Whyte has not fought since December when he beat Mariusz Wach via unanimous decision. On an eleven-fight win streak, “The Body Snatcher” won the interim WBC title against Oscar Rivas in July. The 32-year-old has been the number one-ranked fighter for the WBC since 2017.
Povetkin last fought in December as well, fighting Michael Hunter to a split decision draw. He is 1-1-1 in his last three fights, his last win against Hughie Fury for the vacant WBA International Heavyweight Title.
The co-main event will be a rematch between WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO Lightweight Champion Katie Taylor and Delfine Persoon. The two faced off against one another last June inside Madison Square Garden. Taylor won via majority decision in a fight that had the New York crowd on their feet. Taylor (15-0), who recently beat Christina Linardatou for the WBO Junior-Welterweight Title, was supposed to face Amanda Serrano before plans were nixed.
Persoon (44-2) had her 34-fight win streak snapped as a result of the loss to Taylor. She rebounded in November, beating Helen Joseph via unanimous decision for the interim WBA Super-Featherweight Championship.
