Watch: Footage Of Jorge Masvidal’s Arrest After Allegedly Attacking Colby Covington
New video shows Jorge Masvidal after he was arrested in March after being accused of attacking opponent Colby Covington.
Masvidal already shared the octagon with Covington, but it was Covington who dominated and won unanimously.
“Gamebred” allegedly assaulted Covington just a few weeks later outside Miami’s Papi Steak restaurant. Masvidal was detained after Covington allegedly received a sucker blow from behind, chipping a tooth.
Extensive video of Masvidal’s arrest and subsequent trip to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he paid a $15,000 bail, has surfaced on the Real World Police YouTube account.
A few months ago, the trial for Masvidal’s alleged assault was postponed so that more data could be acquired on Covington’s medical records in light of the assertion that the event caused brain damage.
The trial date for “Gambred” has been set on February 27, 2023.
In the footage, Masvidal appears to be responding to a police officer’s simple inquiries about his name, birthdate, and fighting status.
Masvidal is left in the room alone, where he briefly smiles and seems to be pondering about himself before being arrested and taken away in a car. The UFC fighter can be heard talking about his commitment to himself not to get detained once more as he walks up to the police car.
“I promised myself, ‘Never again.’ But here I am,” Masvidal said.
Masvidal subsequently quips that they should have stopped at a Burger King after discovering that he could have to wait an hour to be booked due to an officer shift change after arriving at the correctional facility.
Masvidal is charged with one count each of criminal mischief and aggravated violence causing grievous bodily injury. The UFC’s ‘BMF’ titleholder may receive up to 15 years in jail and a $10,000 penalty if proven guilty during his trial next year.
Masvidal is aiming to fight for the title against Leon Edwards, who has some background history together.
Gilbert Burns wanted to fight with Masvidal, but he was not interested.
