Gegard Mousasi vs. Douglas Lima is in the books.
The bout was contested for the vacant Bellator Middleweight Championship. Mousasi vs. Lima headlined Bellator 250 inside an empty Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Lima is already the Bellator Welterweight Champion, so he was vying for “champ-champ” status.
It didn’t take long for Mousasi to go for the takedown. Mousasi had his opponent against the fence and went for the back. He was able to take Lima down. Eventually, Mousasi got full guard and turned up the heat with punches.
Mousasi once again went to the grappling in the second stanza. Lima found his back against the cage once again. Mousasi landed some leg kicks near the end of the round.
The story throughout the entire fight was Mousasi’s takedown ability. When the action stood on the feet, Lima appeared to be concerned about the grappling. While Lima fired off some solid leg kicks, he found himself on his back as the final horn sounded.
The bout went to the judges and all three saw the fight for Mousasi. He is now a two-time Bellator Middleweight Champion.
