Floyd Mayweather is officially ready to end his second retirement.
The New York Post reports that Mayweather, while on tour in the United Kingdom, has claimed he will end his time away from the ring as early as June if he and Conor McGregor can work out a deal for a superfight.
"Today, I’m officially out of retirement for Conor McGregor," Mayweather said in a video posted by FightHype.com (see below). "We don’t need to waste no time. We need to make this [expletive] happen quickly. Let’s get it on in June."
Mayweather has been retired since 2015, when he scored a win over Andre Berto to end his professional boxing career at 49-0. Since his time away from active combat sports competition, McGregor has risen to the top of the UFC. The Irish superstar became the first man to hold two UFC titles at the same time — the featherweight and lightweight titles, the latter of which he is the incumbent title holder — and he has practically become the face of the UFC.
McGregor has been inactive since winning the lightweight title in November at UFC 205. He’s on hiatus due to the upcoming birth of his child, and he wants a meeting with the UFC’s owners.
The boxing icon says McGregor needs to take the lower payout portions for the potential big pay-per-view bout because he has already solidified himself as a legend, while the man known as "The Notorious" still has more to prove.
"When I faced Arturo Gatti, I went to his turf," Mayweather said. "He was the ‘A’ side, I was the ‘B’ side. I beat him, I didn’t cry, I didn’t complain. When I faced Oscar De La Hoya, he was the ‘A’ side, I was the ‘B’ side. I didn’t cry, I didn’t complain, I beat him, and I became the ‘A’ side. For Conor McGregor, I’m coming out of retirement, just to fight Conor McGregor.
"I don’t want to hear no more excuses about the money, about the UFC. Sign the paper with the UFC so you can fight me in June. Simple and plain. Let’s fight in June. You’re the ‘B’ side, I’m the ‘A’ side. We’re not here to cry about money. I’m tired of all this crying about money and talking about you want to fight. You blowing smoke up everybody’s ass. If you want to fight, sign the paperwork, let’s do it."
