WATCH: Pride 21 – Frye Vs. Takayama

Pride Never Die!

When the promotion was around, Pride FC was home to some of the most talented fighters in the world. It also showcased some of the best bouts and rivalries in MMA history. One of those bouts featured an MMA fighter and a pro wrestler.

UFC 9 Tournament winner Don Frye faced former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yoshihiro Takayama. Both were involved in the pro wrestling scene in Japan, and this shoot fight in an MMA atmosphere was an all-out brawl. Frye and Takayama just threw hard shots at one another the moment the bout started, with Takayama getting the worst of it. His face was unrecognizable after the first minute. Takayama ended up hitting a vicious knee that struck the forehead of Frye.

Frye would end up taking Takayama to the ground and pounded away at him until the referee stooped the match. Winning by TKO, Frye and Takayama became friends after what ended up becoming a truly exciting bout. Check out the full match with the above video.
