Yesterday, April 7 was a moment many UFC fans will never forget. It is a moment Matt Serra will never forget as well. A huge underdog in his bout against the legendary Georges St-Pierre, Serra beat GSP via TKO to win the UFC Welterweight Championship. Check out the full match in the video above.
Serra (11-7) and GSP (26-2) traded kicks, with Serra landing some nice shots to the body as well. A huge right hook to the back of the head forced St-Pierre to back up, and he never regained his composure. Serra would hit clean elbows and punches to the head before taking GSP down for a mount. A few heavy blows later and it was all over.
It was a huge moment for Serra, who won The Ultimate Fighter Welterweight Tournament against Chris Lytle to get this opportunity. St. Pierre was on a six-fight win streak prior to the bout. A year later, the two faced off again, with St-Pierre coming out on top.
