He was sacked from his last role as Birmingham City’s manager. Now, he is in talks to make his boxing debut. Rooney has been mentioned with boxing for some time. In 2022, Eddie Hearn spoke about Rooney’s boxing skills after watching a sparring clip online, even if the striker was knocked out.

“He won’t mind me saying but after every big fight, especially with a YouTuber, sometimes Rooney will fire me a message. That [his sparring] was in the living room after about eight bottles of red. Wayne Rooney had a very limited amateur pedigree but could still fight. Wayne Rooney training, and I said to him, ‘Imagine the shape you could get in as well. You’ll get right back into shape.’ Against Jake Paul at Old Trafford,” Hearn said

KSI previously rejected the chance to fight Rooney, saying he had no interest. Meanwhile, Jake Paul is focused on fighting professional boxers, who can be marketed based on their past achievements. That has left questions over who Rooney would face.
