WBA Confirms Hearing To Determine Winner Of Vacant Light Welterweight Title

The WBA has officially stripped Josh Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) of his lightweight title.

This news came shortly after Taylor refused to accept a fight with mandatory challenger Alberto Puello. It will be common sense to decide the holder of the vacant belt between #1 Puello and #2 Ismael Barroso.

Instead, WBA has come up with another formula and scheduled a hearing on Tuesday with the top-six fighters determining the matchup.

“The pioneer organization has called the hearing on May 17. The people involved will be the representatives of Alberto Puello, Ismael Barroso, Ohara Davies, Sandor Martín, Regis Prograis, and Batyr Akhmedov,” WBA stated.

“Every team will have 15 minutes to get their point across. There will be no time extensions or favors for any party involved. The panel will be given five minutes to ask any questions. After that, they will present their opinion to President Mendoza, who will have the final decision,” WBA concluded.

Jake Donovan believes that Puello has been demanding this fight for ages. So, to make him wait for even more will frustrate him.

The Dominican won the interim title around three years ago. As per the WBA reduction program, he had already been declared the mandatory challenger for the vacant belt.
