After Gervonta Davis was made a ‘Champion In Recess,’ The WBA is expected to order a showdown between #1 contender Floyd Schofield and #2 ranked Lucas Bahdi for the vacant WBA lightweight title.
After a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach in March 2025—where a voluntary knee by Davis in the ninth round was not ruled a knockdown—Davis spent much of the year sidelined by legal issues and failed negotiations.
Davis was arrested on charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping following a domestic violence investigation involving an ex-girlfriend. The legal fallout led to the immediate cancellation of Davis’ scheduled exhibition against Jake Paul.
The proposed vacant title fight features two of the most explosive prospects in the division. Schofield solidified his mandatory status in June 2025 with a first-round knockout of Tevin Farmer, while Bahdi beat Roger Gutierrez in a WBA eliminator in his last fight in August 2025. Both fighters will have 30 days to agree the fight once it is ordered.
