WBA Extends Deadline To Review Rolando Romero’s Medical Documents As Fight With Ohara Davies Remains Delayed

Rolando Romero and Ohara Davies’ upcoming fight is still at a crossroads as the WBA reviews the former’s medical documents after extending its deadline for the process.

Romero won the WBA 140-pound belt with a ninth-round-stoppage of Ismael Barroso. The victory was controversial with suggestions that the referee (Tony Weeks) had done a bad stoppage as Barroso was hitting back and ahead on all the scorecards. Meanwhile, Davies became mandatory after stopping Lewis Ritson in the ninth round which extended his winning streak to seven in a row.

The WBA was set to hold a purse bid on July 24th, 2023, as Romero was required to defend his WBA belt. However, the date of the purse bid had to be changed due to medical documents submitted by Rolly’s team. However, the exact nature of the condition was not disclosed, leaving many in the dark.

“Romero’s team presented a medical report which is being analyzed by our medical committee members. For that reason, WBA Championships Committee has decided to postpone [the purse bid] until further notice,” WBA

But now the WBA has extended its deadline, leaving Davies and Golden Boy Promotions with a lot to think about. Oscar De La Hoya had reportedly considered legal action after being left unhappy over the situation. But given that a resolution is expected soon, all sides can expect a final solution.
