WBA Headquarters Is Moving To Houston, Texas, And Here’s Why

The WBA is coming to the United States.

WBA President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza announced that his organization is in the process of moving its main office to Houston, Texas. It has been headquartered in Panama in recent years.

“It’s the right time to settle back in the most influential boxing market of the sport,” Mendoza told Fight News.

“Besides seeking to bond with every single member of the American boxing community, we come to support the systematic development of boxing. It needs to be from its roots. USA has talent in every corner and boxing has proven to be a path of success for many athletes.”

Mendoza added that a couple of the reasons that the organization chose Houston is because of Juan Diaz – a former lightweight champion – and Jermell Charlo – the undisputed light middleweight champion – who are both from the city.

The WBA will join IBF and IBO who have their headquarters in the U.S. The WBC, meanwhile, has their office in Mexico and the WBO has it in Puerto Rico.
