The WBA has called for a purse bid between the current 140 lb champion Rolando Romero and his mandatory Ohara Davies on July 24th, 2023, in Panama City, Panama.
The news of the purse bid comes amid reports that Romero may have been looking to avoid Davies and fight Ryan Garcia instead.
The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee has called for a Purse bid to grant the promotional rights of super lightweight world title fight between champion Rolando Romero and challenger Ohara Davies on July 24, in Panama City, Panama #RomeroDavies

Garcia and Romero had made it clear that they were looking to fight each other in a bout that would have been very lucrative.
In contrast, Davies is not a big name and presents a higher risk for Romero as a loss would dampen his career.
After all, Romero’s standing has fallen somewhat despite his WBA-title win over Ismael Barroso.
Romero was behind on the judges’ scorecards before the referee controversially stopped the bout, with many believing that Barroso had been deprived of the chance to become champion.
The sentiment on social media was mixed. A certain subset questioned whether Davies was a big name, who deserved a title shot. Meanwhile, others backed Davies to come out on top.

Who is Ohara Davies? He lost to Catterall, shouldn't Catterall fight Rolly next to set up the next wave of title fights at 140?
