The WBA has ordered Rolando Romero (15-1, 13 KOs) to defend his super lightweight title against Ohara Davies.
Romero grabbed the vacant 140 lb title after he beat Ismael Barroso in a controversial ninth-round knockout after suggestions that the referee stopped the bout too early.
While that may have been the case, Romero did not look back as he targeted a bout with Ryan Garcia. The latter was also keen to get it on following his loss to Gervonta Davis in an attempt to redeem himself at 140 lbs.

And yet, Davies poses a problem in more ways than one. He is not the biggest name out there, which is why it is a high-risk, low-reward fight for Rolly.
Not only that, but the money fight in the division is Garcia, as shown by the fact that his fight with ‘Tank Davis’ reportedly did over $1.2 million pay-per-view buys.
Therefore, the only way for Rolly to fight Garcia would be to do the following. He would either have to face Davies and hope that victory would give him the Garcia fight.
Alternatively, he could arrange some step-aside money for Davies or just vacate the belt. Regardless of what the case may be, the social media response indicated that fans wanted to see Rolly fight Garcia.

This fight isn’t as big as the Rolly vs Garcia fight. But this could be an opportunity for Rolly to put on a better performance than his last fight.
