WBA Orders Tank Davis’ Next Fight

The WBA has officially ordered a mandatory lightweight title defence between WBA ‘champion in recess’ Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) and No. 1 contender Floyd Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs), granting both camps a 30-day negotiation window expiring on June 22.

The order comes with Davis’ mandatory defence significantly overdue. Under WBA Championship Rule C.10, lightweight champions are required to defend their titles every nine months. Davis’ last appearance came on March 1, 2025, when he retained the title via majority draw against Lamont Roach.

WBA Rule C.13 further restricts Davis from fighting any opponent other than Schofield within 60 days of the mandatory defence period’s expiration. Should the two sides fail to reach an agreement within the negotiation window, the WBA may proceed to a purse bid.
