WBA Promotes Gervonta Davis To Full Champion Status

The WBA has reportedly elevated Gervonta Davis to a full champion after Devin Haney’s recent decision to vacate his belts.

Haney vacated after moving up to junior welterweight to take on Regis Prograis. The decision paid off as he became the new WBC champion with a dominant win. The move also meant Davis would be elevated from his ‘Regular’ WBA status to that of a full champion. Tank made it clear that he was not fond of the idea.

“I don’t want that s***” Gervonta Davis said

The boxer would be required to undertake his mandatory obligations and pay sanctioning fees. It would also reduce Davis’ freedom to pick the opponents he wanted. Davis has shown that titles do not define his career. He managed to make a lucrative fight with Ryan Garcia without a title being on the line.

Haney has also shown that he wants to face Davis, showing Tank’s strong commercial power. But a belt may result in unification fights at 135, with Shakur Stevenson holding the WBC belt. Either way, boxing fans were vocal about what they thought.
