WBC Announces Stiverne Will Replace Ortiz In Wilder Fight

At the WBC’s annual convention, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced that it has withdrawn its sanction for the originally scheduled fight between Deontay Wilder and challenger Luis Ortiz.

This comes as little surprise following last week’s announcement that Ortiz failed a VADA drug test.

Following that would be comments on Wilder via social media, denials from Ortiz’ camp, as well as former BALCO exec, Victor Conte stepping in on Ortiz’ behalf.

Per Dan Rafael of ESPN, it will now be mandatory challenger Bermane Stiverne taking the main event spot for the November 4th fight in Brooklyn.

Stiverne was the original opponent for Wilder, but was offered a six figure offer and a fight on the undercard to step aside for Ortiz.

No word if there will be a replacement opponent for Dominic Breazeale  who was slated for Stiverne.
