WBC: Charlo-Centeno Winner Becomes Mandatory For GGG

On Saturday’s fight between Jermall Charlo and Hugo Centeno, not only is the WBC interim middleweight crown on the line, but to become the mandatory opponent to WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman claims that whoever walks out of Brooklyn with the crown, will have the shot against Golovkin.

Golovkin’s next fight is still a question mark, as he and Tom Loeffler are still looking for a replacement for Canelo Alvarez, who pulled out of their May 5th fight a few weeks ago.

At his weekly press conference, Sulaiman said: “Hopefully they will review all the information and all of the facts and rule from everything that is available.

“Obviously the fight between Triple G and Canelo, is the one that the world wants – ever since the bell sounded finishing their first fight. The WBC has ordered an interim championship, in order to address Jermall Charlo`s position as mandatory. He and Hugo Centeno have accepted the WBC ruling. If the Golvokin vs. Alvarez fight is saved for September, they will accept [that the winner has to face the mandatory] and abide by that. And the mandatory will come into place after that.”
