The WBC has ordered a fight between Shadasia Green and Franchon Crews-Dezurn for the vacant super middleweight belt.
The title became vacant after Savannah Marshall pulled out of her mandatory obligations against Green due to an injury. The setback is likely to keep Marshall out until spring, as the boxer becomes a ‘champion in recess.’
“The WBC Board of Governors has decided to place Savannah Marshall as Champion in Recess and will order a fight for the vacant Super Middleweight world title between Green and an opponent to be designate by The WBC Women Championship Committee. Savannah Marshall defeated Crews-Dezurn and unfortunately sustained an injury which will keep her outside of the ring at least until April 2024. We wish a prompt and successful recovery to Savanah Marshall,” WBC stated
The news will give Crews-Dezurn the chance to have another title shot against Marshall if she can overcome Green. In her last fight, Crews-Dezurn lost via a unanimous decision as Marshall became the undisputed champion at 168. Standing in her way, though, is Green. The latter is undefeated with a record of 13-0 and 11 wins by way of knockout. And out of her last 10 fights, nine wins have come by stoppages. Although a date has not been set, the fight has already gotten boxing fans talking.
