The WBC has ordered an immediate rematch between Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez.
The ruling comes after their controversial split decision draw on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford card: 96-94 (Mbilli), 95-95, 95-95. The draw meant Mbilli retained his WBC interim title, putting him in a position to face the undisputed super middleweight champion Crawford. However, the controversial result was enough for Martinez’s camp to file a request for a return bout. The WBC Board of Governors unanimously approved the request, setting up a 30-day negotiation period for both sides to come to an agreement. The winner could get the full WBC title if Crawford vacates for another weight class or retires.
