WBC Pres On GGG’s New Attitude
Heading into his September 15th rematch with Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin has shown a more aggressive attitude towards his opponent, surprising WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman.
Golovkin has not held back any venom towards Alvarez, going after the Mexican boxer for not only their first fight, but for testing positive for clenbuterol earlier this year.
While Alvarez’ relationship with the WBC has been less than stellar, Sulaiman believes Alvarez is telling the truth that he only tested positive for the performance enhancer due to contaminated meat.
“We are meeting a new Golovkin, at a different stage. There have been some complicated years for him. The negotiations were very complicated [for the rematch] because he always felt sidelined,” said Sulaiman of Golovkin’s new attitude.
“The statements may get to Canelo and he get affected [in the rematch]. We can only know [if it affects Canelo or not] on the day of the fight when the bell rings. [They had the] doping issue, which at the time [Golovkin] did not know what substance was, and because of that it generated a very aggressive reaction and from that point everything went up in tone.”
