WBC President: Joshua vs. Fury Would Be ‘Biggest Event Of The Century’
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has big expectations for Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury if the bout comes to fruition.
It’s no secret that one of the biggest fights to make in the world of boxing is Joshua vs. Fury. Joshua holds the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Titles. Fury is the WBC and The Ring Champion. The two have insisted that they are eager to share the ring. Both Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, and Fury’s promoters, Bob Arum and Frank Warren, have also expressed desire in getting the bout done.
Speaking to The Sun, Sulaiman said he feels Joshua vs. Fury would be the biggest fight of this generation.
“This will be the first humongous fight in the social media era. It is such a different era, from radio, then television, pay-per-view, now with the social media events, they get a completely different magnitude worldwide. If that fight is to happen it’s going to be without a doubt the biggest event of the century and one of the biggest in the sport.”
Joshua last competed back in December 2020. He successfully defended his gold against Kubrat Pulev. “AJ” won the bout via ninth-round knockout.
As for Fury, his last outing took place back in February 2020. He challenged Deontay Wilder for the WBC gold in a rematch. “The Gypsy King” stopped Wilder in the seventh round via TKO. In addition to capturing the WBC Title, Fury also scooped up The Ring Championship, which had been vacant.
