WBC Promise Top Five Ranking To Khan-Dib Winner

At the start of this week, Billy Dib was a featherweight, now he has moved up three weight classes to fight a former world champion for a chance to become a top ranked contender for a world title.

Dib has replaced Neeraj Goyat for his scheduled July 12th fight against Amir Khan at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The former featherweight titleholder will move up three weight classes for the chance to become the vacant WBC international welterweight champion, as the newly commissioned WBC Pearl belt, which was made to commemorate the first ever boxing showdown between an Indian and Pakistani will be defended at a later date.

WBC President Maurcio Sulaiman said in a statement that, “The fight between Amir Khan and Billy Dib is now officially confirmed for the WBC International title and I’m proud that it will be contested for at the magnificent King Abdullah Sports City stadium in Jeddah. The specially commissioned WBC Pearl Championship belt that was due to be challenged for will now be contested at a future date. The winner of Khan and Dib will receive a WBC ranking in the top five of the welterweight division.”

Also on the card developed to help drive tourism to the region will see Hughie Fury and Samuel Peter fight for a yet to be announced title, an IBO bantamweight title fight between Prince Patel and Michell Banquez, and a WBC silver featherweight bout between Dave Penalosa and Lerato Dlamini.
