WBC Title Fight Added To Canelo Alvarez vs. Avni Yildirim Undercard

A WBC Title fight has been added to the Canelo Alvarez vs. Avni Yildirim card.

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has announced that WBC Flyweight Champion Julio Cesar Martinez will put his gold on the line against mandatory challenger McWilliams Arroyo. Here’s what Hearn had to say about the matchup.

“It’s Mexico v Puerto Rico on Feb 27 in Miami on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Avni Yildirim card! Julio Cesar Martinez makes his mandatory defense against Arroyo live on DAZN from Hard Rock Stadium.”

Martinez comes into his title defense with an undefeated record of 17-0, 1 NC. He has had two successful title defenses. In his last outing back in October 2020, Martinez stopped Moises Calleros via second-round TKO.

As for Arroyo, his record stands at 20-4. He hasn’t competed since December 7, 2019. On that night, Arroyo defeated Juan Gabriel Medina after Medina didn’t make it off his stool for the sixth round.

The Alvarez vs. Yildirim card will take place on February 27. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida will play host to the event.
