WBC To Hand Over Teotihuacan Belt To Canelo Alvarez Vs. Caleb Plant Winner
The Saul “Canelo” Alvarez versus Caleb Plant showdown has just become more special following the WBC’s nod for preparing a special belt for the super fight.
The Teotihuacan Belt is a fresh commemorative belt that’s manufactured for fights scheduled around two Mexican holidays, Cinco De Mayo in May and Mexican Independence Day in September.
The belt is named after the Teotihuacan city, which is located about 50 km northeast of Mexico City. The winner of the November 6 fight will don the commemorative strap.
The pay-per-view event will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. This is the tenth time the sanctioning body has announced that it will issue a commemorative belt.
Boxing fans around the world are anticipating Canelo’s win which will make him the first undisputed super middleweight champion in the four-belt era.
It took a lot of months, back and forth talks from both camps and negotiations to finally reach an agreement with both boxers.
Alvarez is coming off a dominant victory over Billy Joe Saunders where he unified the WBC, WBO and WBA world titles. Since January 2019, Plant has defended his IBF title three times.
