WBC Will Revisit Garcia’s Title After Spence Fight
Mikey Garcia has already sacrificed one lightweight title to lock in his fight against IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr, and it looks like the WBC will let him keep the other.
While mandatory challenger Luke Campbell is due for a shot at the title Garcia claimed in a win over Dejan Zlaticanin, the WBC will avoid making a decision until Garcia fights Spence at AT&T Stadium next month.
“We won’t set any date, at least until after until March 16 when he fights Errol Spence, Jr.,” WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told BoxingScene.com. “He’s a multi-division world champion who has earned the benefit of the doubt.”
“Immediately after Mikey’s fight with Errol Spence on March 16, we will talk to him about about his intentions for the future. He is a great champion who deserves recognition and such respect.”
