Haney Vs Shakur Potentially Blocked By WBO
The WBO has given welterweight champion Devin Haney (33-0, 25 KOs) an ultimatum to either face his mandatory Keyshawn Davis (15-0, 10 KOs) next or be stripped of the title.
The ruling puts a significant obstacle in front of Haney’s fight vs junior welterweight champion Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs), which appeared to be gathering momentum this week following Haney finally agreeing to drop down to 144-pounds to face Stevenson in a catchweight bout.
Haney had previously acknowledged that we would face Davis, but wanted to secure the Shakur bout first since that is a more marquee and lucrative fight. Haney’s mandatory defense is due in August, leaving little time to pursue other options if he intends to hold onto the title.
