WBO Knows Canelo Wants To Stay At 175 Pounds
WBO light heavyweight champion Canelo Alvarez may have made up his mind according to the governing body’s president Francisco Valcarcel.
“Alvarez wants to keep the WBO light heavyweight belt,” Valcarcel said to Vasiliy Konov on the fate of the title Canelo won against Sergey Kovalev on November 2nd.
If Canelo remains as the champion at 175-pounds, he may have to contend against mandatory challenger Gilberto Ramirez, who is the mandatory challenger for the title due to being the super middleweight champion and wanting to move up to light heavyweight.
The move is interesting, as Alvarez is the secondary titleholder at 168 pounds, which could create a situation where Alvarez gains the main title or fights for it later in 2020.
