Werdum Returns Against Oleinik At UFC 250

Following a lengthy suspension, one of the top heavyweights in UFC history may be making his return to the octagon. In a report by Combate, Fabricio Werdum will face off against Aleksei Oleinik at UFC 250 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

This will be the first fight for Werdum (23-8-1) since March 2018, when he lost to Alexander Volkov via knockout. Prior to that, the 42-year-old was on a two fight win streak. Werdum is 3-3 in his last six fights. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion has been under suspension after testing positive for a banned substance in April of that year. He was hoping the UFC would cut him, seeing as he only has two more fights under his current deal, but they did not budge. As a result, it forced Werdum to stay in limbo.

Werdum recently received a 10-month reduction of his sentence from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. This was after providing information that “leads to the discovery of another violation or which results in a criminal or disciplinary body discovering an offense, is eligible for a sanction reduction.”

Werdum will be facing an opponent in Oleinik (58-13-1), who is coming off of a submission win over Maurice Greene back at January’s UFC 246 card. It ended a two-fight losing streak that included defeats against Alistair Overeem (TKO) and Walt Harris (KO).

UFC 250 is set to take place inside Ginasio do Ibirapuera on May 9.
