What Are Erislandy Lara’s Thoughts On Jermell Charlo vs. Jeison Rosario?
Erislandy Lara has given his take on the upcoming title unification showdown between Jermell Charlo (33-1) and Jeison Rosario (20-1-1).
On September 26, Charlo, who holds the WBC Light-Middleweight Championship, will collide with WBA (Super) and IBF Light-Middleweight Champion Rosario. The action will be held inside an empty Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. It’s set to be a part of a Showtime Boxing pay-per-view. Charlo’s brother Jermall will also be on the card as he’ll meet Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
During a chat with Boxing Scene, Lara was asked for his thoughts on Charlo vs. Rosario. Lara admitted that it’s a tough one to call but he has a prediction.
“That’s going to be a good fight,” Lara said. “Rosario will not back down to Charlo and that makes for an exciting fight because we all know Jermell is a powerful puncher. I have to give the edge to Charlo because of his experience.”
The prediction may not come as a surprise to some. Lara and Charlo were once training partners under Ronnie Shields in Houston, Texas. Lara ended up reuniting with coach Ismael Salas.
Charlo is hoping to extend his winning streak to three. He’s coming off a TKO victory over Tony Harrison, avenging his lone career loss and regaining the WBC Light-Middleweight Title in the process.
Lara has his own fight coming up. On August 29, he will do battle with Greg Vendetti inside the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. Lara will be putting his WBA (Regular) Light-Middleweight Title on the line. The vacant IBO Light-Middleweight Championship will also be up for grabs.
Back on August 31, 2019, Lara captured the WBA (Regular) Light-Middleweight Title. He defeated Roman Alvarez in the second round via TKO. It was Lara’s first victory since October 14, 2017. It was also the first time Lara scored a knockout or TKO since January 13, 2017.
