What Did Joseph Parker Ask Eddie Hearn?
Former WBO Heavyweight Champion Joseph Parker called Eddie Hearn with a request.
Parker was paying close attention to the interim WBC Heavyweight Title fight between Alexander Povetkin and Dillian Whyte. While Whyte appeared to be in cruise control, Povetkin stopped him in the fifth round with a massive uppercut to take the interim gold. Parker saw this as an opportunity to ask for a bout with either man.
Appearing as a guest on The AM Show, Parker revealed that he contacted Matchroom Boxing head honcho Hearn to ask for a showdown with either Povetkin or Whyte (h/t Boxing Scene).
“I video-called Eddie after the fight and asked him to give me Povetkin – or even Whyte. He told me to smash Junior Fa first and then he would look at one of those two for me. I want to fight everyone in the top five, but I need to climb the ladder to get back to the top. I want to be champion of the world – a two-time world champion and a unified world champion. I’ve given myself five years and then I am out.”
Parker has shared the boxing ring with Whyte. Back on July 28, 2018, Parker and Whyte collided inside the O2 Arena in London, England. Parker was beaten via unanimous decision. It was his second loss in a row as he also dropped a unanimous decision to Anthony Joshua in the fight prior.
Since suffering back-to-back losses to Joshua and Whyte, Parker has gone on a three-fight winning streak. In that span, he’s beaten Alexander Flores, Alex Leapai, and Shawndell Winters via knockout or TKO.
