What Does Alexander Povetkin Want To Do After Dillian Whyte Rematch?
Alexander Povetkin has big plans if he can defeat Dillian Whyte a second time.
Povetkin stunned the boxing world with his fifth-round TKO victory over Whyte back on August 22. With the win, Povetkin became the interim WBC Heavyweight Champion. Whyte had a mandatory title shot against Fury but that blew up in smoke with the loss.
Povetkin’s promoter, Andrey Ryabinsky, has laid out what his fighter plans to do if he’s able to defeat Whyte a second time in their November 21 rematch (h/t BoxingScene.com).
“We will work in this direction [fighting WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury]. The fight for the world title is a big event in the career of any fighter, and with every reason for this, of course, we will seek a mandatory defense from the WBC.”
Ryabinsky went on to say that the location doesn’t matter as long as Povetkin is able to cash in with a bout against the winner of Fury vs. Deontay Wilder III.
“Why not? This is one of the possible locations. If such a fight takes place, it will really become an event in the boxing world, no matter where it takes place: in Russia or in any other country in the world.”
