What Does Dana White Think Of Nick Diaz’s Potential UFC Return?
UFC President Dana White has responded to Nick Diaz’s potential UFC return.
Diaz had the MMA world buzzing with a recent video that showcased him in tip-top shape. The Stockton native’s manager, Kevin Mubenga told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani that Diaz is testing weight-cutting for a potential return to the Octagon in 2021.
White was asked about the Diaz news following the latest edition of his Tuesday Night Contender Series. The UFC boss didn’t sound too optimistic (h/t MMAMania.com).
“Listen, the Nick Diaz thing … first of all, we would never have released that or done that. We’ll see how this thing plays out. I don’t have any expectations whatsoever. There’s been talking, but there’s been talking for years.”
Diaz hasn’t competed since January 31, 2015. He also hasn’t emerged victorious in an MMA fight since October 29, 2011. Diaz is 37 years old but he hasn’t taken damage over the years thanks to his inactivity, which may serve him well if he ultimately sticks with his comeback plans.
Many expressed concern for Diaz after a November 2019 interview with Helwani. Many noticed the Stockton native was often difficult to understand and his state of mind was questioned. This latest news of a potential comeback and his dedication to fitness has served as a positive sign for fight fans that if anything was wrong, Diaz is moving in the direction of changing things.
At his peak, Diaz was ruling the roost in Strikeforce’s welterweight division. He reigned as the champion at 170 pounds before making his way back to the UFC in 2011.
