What Does Daniel Cormier Want Jorge Masvidal To Do Next?
Daniel Cormier has given his take on what Jorge Masvidal’s next move should be.
Masvidal is coming off a unanimous decision loss to UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 251 back in July. The loss snapped “Gamebred’s” three-fight winning streak but his momentum hasn’t appeared to have slowed down. The UFC is working on booking a rematch between Masvidal and Nate Diaz.
While Masvidal and Diaz drew a significant live gate in Madison Square Garden in New York City, some feel the first fight wasn’t competitive enough to justify a second bout. Masvidal won the first encounter via TKO due to doctor’s stoppage.
Cormier is in the camp that doesn’t feel a rematch is in order at this time. During the DC & Helwani Show, Cormier played matchmaker (via BJPenn.com).
“Do Masvidal vs. Covington. Maybe Nate Diaz vs. Leon Edwards. If Diaz wants to fight, give him a fight. If Diaz wants a fight, give him a fight. I’m just saying, you love the storylines. There’s no bigger story right now than Masvidal vs. Covington.”
Masvidal and Covington were once friends and roommates. The two trained together at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida. Once Covington turned up the heat with his MAGA gimmick, he began to take aim at his own teammates. That included Masvidal, who didn’t take took kindly to his former friend turning on him.
If Masvidal and Covington were to collide, many believe it would be lucrative for a pay-per-view event. Covington is coming off a fifth-round TKO victory over Tyron Woodley.
