What Does Dustin Poirier Want In Order To Fight Tony Ferguson?
Dustin Poirier’s request to accept a bout with Tony Ferguson is simple.
Poirier and Ferguson have fought a slew of elite UFC fighters. Both men even captured interim UFC Lightweight gold along the way. Somehow, “The Diamond” and “El Cucuy” have never crossed paths.
UFC President Dana White revealed to reporters that he is interested in booking Poirier vs. Ferguson soon. Poirier has said that while he doesn’t have a contract, he’s already preparing just in case he’s called upon to compete in a short period of time.
Speaking to ESPN, Poirier said the price has to be right if he’s expected to go to war with Ferguson.
“I’m in. … I just need to be compensated if they want this fight. Simple as that. I’m a prizefighter and the prize needs to be right.”
Poirier took on Dan Hooker back on June 27. The “Fight of the Year” candidate went the distance after five rounds of action. Poirier was awarded the unanimous decision victory.
As for Ferguson, he took on Justin Gaethje in his last outing back on May 9. “El Cucuy” suffered his first loss in eight years. He was stopped by Gaethje via fifth-round TKO. Ferguson’s 12-fight winning streak was snapped.
The reputation of Poirier and Ferguson speaks for itself. Both men are known for their grit and putting on exciting performances. Both can tout impressive resumes. Poirier has defeated the likes of Gaethje, Max Holloway, Eddie Alvarez, and Anthony Pettis. Ferguson has beaten Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Rafael dos Anjos, Pettis, and Kevin Lee.
