What Does Eddie Hearn Have To Say About Alexander Povetkin vs. Dillian Whyte II?
Matchroom Boxing’s head honcho Eddie Hearn has chimed in on Alexander Povetkin vs. Dillian Whyte II.
The rematch between Povetkin and Whyte was announced on Tuesday, September 15. The interim WBC Heavyweight Title rematch is scheduled to take place on November 21. There is no venue set but Hearn is hopeful to have fans in attendance. Regardless, the November 21 date is locked.
Povetkin and Whyte first did battle back on August 22. Povetkin scored the stunning upset win in the fifth round via TKO. He captured the interim WBC Heavyweight Title in the process.
Hearn weighed in on the rematch (h/t Boxing Scene).
“If he wants to fight for a world title, absolutely everything is on the line in this fight. Everything is on the line for his career on November 21. It was a big shock, especially as he was seen to be controlling the fight and it was a brutal, brutal knockout that was seen around the world. From the moment he found his way back to the changing room to the moment he saw me, all he could talk about was the rematch.”
Hearn went on to say that Whyte is looking to prove that he didn’t make a mistake in taking the rematch with Povetkin as quickly as he did.
“He has had three or four weeks to rest up, it is nine weeks this Saturday. So he won’t be starting full camp for another week or so, but he is so hungry to win. Many people think he is foolish taking the rematch so early, but he believes he should have won that fight, he wants the chance to avenge that fight and he wants the chance to do it quickly. Alexander Povetkin said ‘I’m all in, I knocked you out once, I will do it again’.”
We’ll keep you up to speed with further details on the Povetkin vs. Whyte II card as they become available.
