What Does Khamzat Chimaev Think Of Khabib Nurmagomedov Comparisons?
Khamzat Chimaev is aware of the comparisons to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Chimaev has been quickly rising in popularity since making his UFC debut. His fighting style and the fact that he finished two opponents within the span of 10 days left fight fans wanting more. In what was supposed to be his toughest test to date, Chimaev knocked out Gerald Meerschaert with one punch in 17 seconds.
Due to his grappling abilities and relentless ground game, many have compared Chimaev to Khabib. There’s also the fact that both men were born in Russia. Chimaev made it clear to reporters following his win over Meerschaert that he wants to shake off those comparisons (h/t MMAFighting.com).
“Yeah because everybody say, ‘You are Khabib, Khabib No. 2,’ something like that – but I am Khamzat. I can knock out people. Smash the people. Everything. I have everything.”
UFC President Dana White had plans to book Chimaev against Demian Maia in Abu Dhabi next. After Chimaev’s win over Meerschaert, it appears White is leaning towards giving the rising star another fight first. Chimaev said he’s prepared to fight anyone put in front of him.
“I am ready for everybody. Like I said to Dana, if you give me Demian Maia I am ready for him. If they give me Brock Lesnar, I am ready for him also.”
Chimaev has a pro MMA record of 9-0. Along the way, he’s garnered six wins by way of knockout or TKO and three via submission. Time will tell who ends up sharing the Octagon with Chimaev next but it’s safe to say even more eyeballs will be on the fight.
