What Does Luke Campbell Have Planned For Ryan Garcia Fight?
Luke Campbell makes it short and sweet when dishing out on what he plans to do to Ryan Garcia.
Campbell is expected to do battle with Garcia before 2020 comes to a close. The two have agreed to fight for the interim WBC Lightweight Championship. Golden Boy Promotions has been looking to hold the event in November. There is a report that DAZN is committed to featuring Garcia vs. Campbell but money issues are at play.
Regardless, Campbell’s focus remains on the fight. He kept things brief when asked about his plan for the Garcia fight when speaking to Sky Sports (via Bad Left Hook).
“I see me just breaking him down and stopping him.”
Campbell isn’t so sure about the narrative that he’s the grizzled veteran going up against the young up-and-coming star.
“They say I’m the veteran — I’ve only had three more fights than he has. So in that respect, I still feel like I’m the up-and-coming guy as well, which I do believe that as well. I am the up-and-coming guy also, but my opposition has just been levels above what he’s had to face so far. I think on my 17th fight I boxed a three-weight world champion within Linares, who currently at that time was in his prime and was also in the top 10 pound-for-pound list as well. And it’s a fight that I thought I won.”
Campbell is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Vasiliy Lomachenko back on August 31, 2019. Campbell was competing for the WBA, WBC, and WBO Lightweight Titles. With the defeat, “Cool Hand’s” three-fight winning streak was snapped.
Garcia is undefeated with a pro boxing record of 20-0. He’s coming off a first-round knockout victory over Francisco Fonseca back on February 14. Garcia retained the WBC Silver Lightweight Championship with the victory over Fonseca.
